You might be asking, why do I want to setup my domain on Tumblr? Your custom DownDoggy domain will let you host your Tumblr blog with a URL like www.(YOURDOMAIN).com. If you’ve already purchased a domain through DownDoggy we’ll guide you on connecting your Tumblr account with your DownDoggy domain name.
Once your DownDoggy custom domain is set up, people who visit your old tumblr URL will be automatically redirected to your new custom domain. For example, “you.tumblr.com” will automatically redirect you to “(YOURDOMAIN).com”, which will display your tumblelog.
Step 1: Login
Login to your DownDoggy account assuming you’ve already registered your DownDoggy.com domain by clicking “My Account” on the DownDoggy.com homepage. If you need a domain start your domain search.
Step 2: Domain Manager
Click “Domain Manager” in the leftside navigation. A new window will open.
Step 3: Domain Edit
Click your domain you wish to use as your Tumblr blog. And on the new page under “Total DNS” click the link “Total DNS Control.”
Step 4: Change IP Address
Next we’re changing the IP address in the A Record. Under “A (Host)” click the Notepad & Pencil icon under “Actions,” the top record. Next we’re changing the IP address under the “A (Host).”
Next to “Points To Ip Address:” replace the old IP address with: 184.108.40.206
Click the “OK” button at the bottom right.
You’re done with the DownDoggy part, you can close your window.
Step 5: Tumblr Setup
Give your domain a 20-30 minutes to propagate the changes. You can test you domain using Tumblr’s domain checker: http://www.tumblr.com/check_domain
